There are some interesting alternatives to the bailout being discussed among some very bright people. But most unfortunately the urgency precludes much discussion and consideration of alternatives, regardless of their merit.

I share a concern that Fannie Mae will continue in some fashion as an arm of the government, and will become a giant tool influencing the market. I would like to see the government plan to extricate itself from the market and its positions in even the healthy surviving companies.

I would like to see a 911 type commission research and explain the problem and hold the congressmen accountable, but such a commission would probably whitewash the real culprits under the putrid guise of ‘bipartisanship’. I would like the public to understand that it was not a market failure; it was a government failure and one of the worst ever.

If Congress had any integrity on this issue both Barney Franks and Christopher Dodd should be stripped of their Chairmanships, and Pelosi and Harry Reid should be held accountable. Frank Raines should be in prison. But I see no sign of such honesty from the Democrats.

I hope enough voters learn the cause of this problem before the next election.
