Last spring a small group from Macon (and a few other southern cities) went to Israel and we went to a school in Dimona, site of the recent bombing. Shlomo Ben Asher was our guide. Sue Halpern, one of our participants, was thoughtful enought to inquire about the impact of the bombing with Shlomo, and I thought his response was worth sharing:

Dear Sue,

Thank you for writing and thinking of us. The bombing in Dimona was terrible but could have been much worse. It happened at the city mall and no children were hurt. A 74 years old woman, an immigrant from Russia, was killed and her husband was wounded very badly. He is still in the hospital. They have 2 grown sons. The 2 terrorists came from Hebron, where there is no barrier built. One of them operated the bomb and was killed immediately. The other one was supposed to wait until people and police would come near, and then bomb himself once there are a lot of people. Luckily he stood too close to the first one and was wounded in a way that he couldn’t operate the bomb. At first the medical crew came near him to help him thinking he was somebody from the mall. Only when they opened his shirt they discovered the belt of explosives, and shot his head immediately.

All the best to you

Shlomo
