RINOs Found Their Balls

“And that’s why it was the moderate side of the right that stepped up to the plate and delivered the goods in the Kavanaugh fight. Lindsay Graham, Susan Collins, Chuck Grassley, Mitch McConnell, all of them harshly vilified in the past by the more conservative wing of the party, found themselves uttering words that those who had previously reviled them were now cheering.”

The Success and Failure of Our Poverty Programs

“The stated goal of the War on Poverty is not just to raise living standards, but also to make America’s poor more self-sufficient and to bring them into the mainstream of the economy. In that effort the war has been an abject failure, increasing dependency and largely severing the bottom fifth of earners from the rewards and responsibilities of work.”

Steering #MeToo into Destruction

“Once #MeToo became an arm of the progressive political movement, as witnessed by the Kavanaugh debacle, it lost credence as a movement of righteous indignation whose targets were mostly contrite predators. “

Cruelty in Deeds vs Words

“And as far as his demonstrable crudity and uncouthness, the hearings showed that the Democrats were far crueler and crass in deed than Trump was in word. So perhaps half of the small minority of Republican Never Trumpers, in horror at the Antifa tactics of the Democrats, retreated to the old adage of “hang together or hang separately.”

Kavanaugh Postscript

Both sides think the results will improve their turnout. Women who have experienced abuse are sympathetic to Ford’s testimony, but I believe that the Kavanaugh victory is moving more votes left to right than the other way. The mob is a greater threat than an imperfect judicial process to most voters.

The Avenatti Toxin

By bringing such extreme unfounded allegations he tarnished the far more believable act contended by Ms. Ford, even if her case had no corroboration.  He also tarnished the credibility of his other client, Ms. Daniels.

The One Place Republicans Cannot be Harassed

This political cancer that was ignored on our campuses is now malignant and the cure will be even more difficult. They can continue to deny a safe space to their opponents, but there is still one available that they are unwise to ignore.

Calvinball Justice

Defending their daughters, mothers and sisters does not mean abandoning their sons, fathers and brothers.  Belief does not trump evidence and justice.  Accusations as a final arbiter are just sexual McCarthyism.

Breitbart 2.0

The Kavanaugh travesty has united the right better than anything that Trump could have designed. It has clarified the opposition better than anything since Clarence Thomas.

Kavanaugh vs The Resistance

A charge with no corroboration should never have made it to the floor.  It should have been addressed and dismissed in committee. Feinstein’s delay and politically timed release was reprehensible, and she should be censured for it. Regardless of what happens with Kavanaugh there should be a full Senate investigation into the tactics deployed by the Democrats on the committee.

Political Thoughts 2018 10 02

Identity Politics has gone nuclear over the Kavanaugh confirmation.  Democrats want Roe V Wade to be made sacred law and untouchable. How do they reconcile this with the belief in the Constitution to be a living breathing document to be

Identity Politics Goes Nuclear

These institutions were under full frontal assault in the Kavanaugh hearing.  In desperation to preserve their most cherished right they dropped all pretenses of loyalty to the institutions that protect all of our rights.  They are willing to sacrifice due process and the presumption of innocence to even the smallest threat to Roe v Wade.

Sex, Lies and Politics

The Kavanaugh hearing weaponized the movement. Instead of handling the 36-year-old allegation in private in a timely manner it was manipulated to achieve maximum political advantage; blocking a critical appointment at all cost and providing an opportunity for massive fundraising.  In the course of this strategy the most fundamental differences in the two parties took clear form, amplified by the passions of the #MeToo movement.

How to Kill the #MeToo Movement

Corroborating witnesses, due process, and timely reporting are still necessary.  This is difficult in such matters because the abuse is usually committed in private.  But without these norms guilt and innocence become arbitrary and the entire legal system become a tool for personal and political abuse. Yes, some of the guilty will go free and unpunished, but that is a price we pay for the presumption of innocence.

The Private and the Public

The cause, which is usually a permanently revolutionary one, always matters more than any individual’s possible innocence. You are, in fact, always guilty before being proven innocent. You always have to prove a negative. And no offense at any point in your life is ever forgotten or off the table.”

The Boxer Standard

The willingness to compromise critical institutions is a great threat to our nation.  In the absence of these institutions we are left with nothing but government and arbitrary power.  Justice is the first victim.

Belief is Not Justice

If there was ever a case to be made that politics has replaced religion as the preferred faith of the left it is the use of the word ‘believe’ in determining legal liability. They believe because they want to believe.  They want to believe the opposition is so sinister and evil that no evidence is required.

“I Don’t Like the Republicans, but I Can’t Stand the Democrats”

The 2018 midterms are an important test.  Was the humiliating loss of Hillary to Trump only because of her incompetence and corruption or is the party itself out of touch?  The House races are the first opportunity to begin recovering from this loss. If the Democrats fail to take the House, it will be a far more devastating defeat than losing to Donald Trump.

The Democrats’ Destruction of #MeToo

These movements gained a power that is too seductive.  Like any power that is poorly defined it is subject to abuse as the Senate Democrats have proven.  By hijacking the #MeToo movement in their shameless pursuit of political power they have destroyed the movement’s credibility.
