So far Obama seems to have some solid Jewish support but I question if it will last the campaign.
Jews vote at twice the rate of other ethnic groups and their numbers are concentrated in electoral rich blue states like New York, Florida, California and Illinois. These are states that typically vote blue and are critical for a Democratic victory in the general election. No Jewish conspiracy folks, just demographic fact.
There are a lot of lies about Obama circulating the internet, so I will not repeat them. What seems undisputed so far:
Of all the churches he could have joined on the South Side of Chicago, he joined a church run by Reverend Wright, a friend of Louis Farrakhan- a vicious anti Semite. To Obama’s credit, however, he has issued a statement condemning Farrakhan’s anti-semsitsm.
His team consists of Zbigniew Brzezinski, Robert O. Malley, and Anthony Lake. Brzezinski has defended the Walt- Mearsheimer study which became an anti semitic rehash of old canards hidden in academic garb. Commentary on its academic vacuousness has been posted in my previous blogs.
Malley has published anti-Israeli propoganda, and sides clearly with the Palestinians. Both he and Brzezinski are holdovers from the Carter era. (not a shining moment of American foreign policy.)
Several other comments made by Obama on the campaign trail should be some cause for concern. Some them are documented by Marc Zell in his Jerusalem Post article, “Obama and the Jews“.
Obama is bright, smart, and decent. I question, given his experience and existing relationships, when it comes down to facing Iran about to go nuclear, how will he act? Will he want to meet and address their concerns, trying to rationalize and understand the evil in front of him or will he take action, as extreme as necessary? Will he be Chamberlain or Churchill?
He will be facing a potential disaster that mere intelligence and charm will not avert.
