In an article in OpinionJournal by Daniel Henninger, he raises points about the sustainability of Obama’s ‘miracle’.

A few points he noted:

  • A Gallup noted 84% of Americans are satisfied with their lives. How much influence will the message of change have on their votes?
  • If you actually listen to his message (and get beyond the words ‘change’ and ‘hope’), it is largely negative and disparaging, not just about the issues, but about the basic structure of our country. Negative gets lots of press, but not lots of votes.

To which I add:

  • The youth vote has disappointed expectations in the last few elections. We hear much about how Obama has stimulated the youth turnout.
  • One group that votes in very high numbers and is usually greatly underestimated in elections is the Angry White Males (AWM). A piece from the Aspen Times that has been widely circulated captures their profile well.
  • His voting record is very liberal, far left of center. Generally, far from center on either side loses.
  • In the primaries the candidates are handled with kid gloves compared to the exposure and pressure they will get in the general election.
  • Obama smiles and brags about raising taxes. Rarely will such a callous attitude about taxes win elections.
