Science of the Ruling Class

From Boston University Professor Angelo Codevilla’s “America’s Ruling Class- And the Perils of Revolution” (July – August 2010 issue). In The American Spectator (online version).

That is why the ruling class is united and adamant about nothing so much as its right to pronounce definitive, “scientific” judgment on whatever it chooses. When the government declares, and its associated press echoes that “scientists say” this or that, ordinary people — or for that matter scientists who “don’t say,” or are not part of the ruling class — lose any right to see the information that went into what “scientists say.” Thus when Virginia’s attorney general subpoenaed the data by which Professor Michael Mann had concluded, while paid by the state of Virginia, that the earth’s temperatures are rising “like a hockey stick” from millennial stability — a conclusion on which billions of dollars’ worth of decisions were made — to investigate the possibility of fraud, the University of Virginia’s faculty senate condemned any inquiry into “scientific endeavor that has satisfied peer review standards” claiming that demands for data “send a chilling message to scientists…and indeed scholars in any discipline.” The Washington Post editorialized that the attorney general’s demands for data amounted to “an assault on reason.” The fact that the “hockey stick” conclusion stands discredited and Mann and associates are on record manipulating peer review, the fact that science-by-secret-data is an oxymoron, the very distinction between truth and error, all matter far less to the ruling class than the distinction between itself and those they rule.

well let’s see….The scientific data and the opinion from across the board …scientifically speaking, which means mathematical or otherwise PROVABLE evidence overwhelmingly supports the trend of global warming…so we call it fact when it is proven repeatedly. The argument AGAINST global warming almost always can be traced back to owners of … See Moreindustry. Industry that usually is the root cause of that warming. i.e., Oil, coal and other energy conglomerates. They in turn finance politicians to argue against global warming and buy up the media so as to throw stones of doubt to this well proven phenomenon, and fund “independent” investigations into the global warming “hoax”. man I hate this crap…..

    1. The economic self interest and influence of the energy companies is matched by the economic self interest and influence of the wall street crowd seeing huge profits from the exchange for cap and trade, and the economic self interest of ‘green investors’ who want us to believe that the billions they stand to make presents no conflict of interest.
    2. The political self interest for climate change is no less corrupting than any economic self interest. Probably more so.
    3. To consider the vast undiscovered knowns and unknowns in the world of global climate, and to propose that we know the future direction AND CAUSE with any certainty is simply foolish. Such hubris is not unlike the delusional certainty that led to the collapse of the financial sector. It is an issue of logic as well as science. The problem with the proliferation of information and data is that any presumption can find support regardless of the absence of common sense.
    4. There are many many credible scientists who have opposed the theory of global warming with no ties to any industry or group. Political pressure has shut them out.
    5. Then again … it is damn hot outside today.
