A friend raised this question in conversation.  If job losses are causing record unemployment, are the unemployment numbers actually worse due to the effect of illegal immigerants?

Since many of these workers did not show up in the employment numbers before and assuming that many of them returned south of the border , these job losses are probably not included in the unemployment numbers. Given an estimated 20 million undocumented workers, the impact on the unemployment data could be significant.

It will be interesting to see how high unemployment will affect the immigration issue.
