If Obama wins the committed delegates he could lose if the Super Delegates side with Hillary. The Super Delegates are unique to the Democratic party; they consist of governors and current and past party leaders like Bill Clinton and Al Gore and were added to the convention 25 years ago to keep ‘activists’ from controlling the outcome. It is simply a way to keep insider control.

If Hillary’s team is able to swing the Super Delegates to beat Obama, even if he has won more committed delegates at the primary, then the Obama supporters will justifiably feel as if their candidate has been robbed, and they will be furious. Hillary will be seen as the Democrat who kept the first legitimate black candidate from the White House. It could lead to a major black exodus from the party.

I doubt that the super delegates would betray the will of the Democratic primary, but I believe Hillary would do nearly anything to win. The Super Delegates may be her emergency play. There is already a lot of arm twisting going on.

The Democratic Party has already decided to not seat Michigan and Florida as a result of the states’ movement of their primary date against the will of the party. The candidates agreed not to campaign there. NOW that those states went for Hillary she wants to betray that pledge. Would she propose that if those states went to Obama?
