(rant alert)

So while I am working out in the gym at the Wynn in Las Vegas I hear more political panderings from the campaign trail. We need to give a tax break, but we need to give the tax breaks to the poor, even people who do not even pay taxes. This is called welfare. They call it tax rebates.

Why, because poor people will spend the money more quickly (one of the reasons they are poor, God forbid they should save it.. This position really is demeaning to the poor.) and stimulate the economy quicker. (According to Hillary). The ignorance in this position is so monumental I just want to reach right through that 42” Sharp hi-def screen and bitch slap anyone standing at a podium.

So Alfred will take his ‘rebate’, go to Walmart and buy a few extra jumbo Kit Kats for the kids and splurge on the new Braun electric tooth brush- no wait- poor people have bad teeth so they would never spend extra cash on hygiene. Old Al will more likely buy some fishing gear. Either way the money ends up at Walmart. So why not just send the money to Walmart in the form of lower taxes that will provide continuous stimulus that create more jobs so that Alfred can make more overtime pay and buy more Kit Kats and fishing gear all the time thus paying more taxes so we can buy better armor for our troops so they can kill more innocent Iraqis?

The impact of tax cuts would be far greater if the citizens and business people could depend on the tax policy to be consistent so they could better plan to take advantage of them. But these candidates clearly do not understand the nature of wealth.

You can either spend money, save money, or give it away. Which ever you choose it will benefit someone else. This ridiculous idea that it will have greater impact by directing it with clumsy tax policy to a special interest group or a political constituency is just an extension of the class warfare mentality. Tax policy aimed at stimulating consumption, especially these one time rebates, is not nearly as effective as aiming them at stimulating production.

But that means directing tax cuts at the people who control production and investment and that just irritates the class warfare mongers, who unfortunately want to be our next president.
